Ingredients you'll needs:
For dal:
- 1 cup chana dal( bengal gram)
- 3 cup of water ( for cook the dal)
- 1 medium size onion ( finaly chopped)
- 2 medium size tomato ( finaly chopped)
- 2 green chillies ( slit lengthwise)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli Powder
- 1 tbsp cumin seeds ( jeera)
- 2 tbsp ghee or oil
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- Salt to taste.
For tempering:
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp mustard seeds ( rai)
- 5-6 garlic cloves ( finaly chopped)
- A pinch of hing
- Fresh coriander leaves
Let's see how to make it step by step:
Prepare the dal:
- Wash the chana dal under running water until it becomes clean.
- Then soak it in water for 30 minutes or 11 hours so that it takes less time to cook.
Cook the dal:
- Then drain the soaked water and add the dal in the pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water, then add a little turmeric powder and a pinch of salt .
- let the dal cook for 3-4 whistles in medium flame.If you are using a regular pot then cook till the lentils become soft and keep in mind that they do not overcook.
- Once the dal is cooked, mash it lightly with the back side of a spoon so that the dal gets a creamier consistency.
Prepare the base:
- Heat ghee and oil in a pan, add sumin seeds and let it sizzle.
- Then add chopped onions and cook till they become golden brown.
- Then add green chillies and tomatoes and cook until the mixture becomes soft and oil separates from the sides.
- Then stir the garam masala red chilli Powder and salt mix well.
Combain dal and masala:
- Then add the mashed dal masala to it and mix it well. And add panni as per the need to adjust the consistency of the dal.
- These simmer the lentils for 5-7 minutes on low flame so that the spices in it get mixed well and the taste of the lentils improves.
Tempering the dal :
- In a small pan I may add ghee or oil or heat it and then add mustard seeds and try splitter.
- Then add dried red chillies, chopped garlic cloves or a pinch of hing and stir it until the garlic turns golden brown.
- Pour the tempering into dal and mix it well.
Garnish and serve:
- Now your dal is ready to eat serve it with fresh coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with stream rice, fluffy roti or jeera rice. And add the ghee For extra flover.

Use fresh dal:
Old lentils take a lot of time to cook. You should use fresh lentils so that both the taste and consistency are maintained.
Consistency matters:
Adjust water to make dal thick or semi thick for better consistency.
Tempering is key:
