Ingredients for palak dal
For Dal:
- 1 cup toor dal ( you can also use moong dal or masoor dal)
- 3 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
For palak dal base:
- 2 cup spinach ( finaly chopped)
- 1 medium size onion ( finaly chopped)
- 1 medium size tomato ( finaly chopped)
- 2-3 garlic cloves ( grated)
- 1 inch ginger ( greated)
- 2 green chillies
- 1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
- 1 tsp mustard seeds ( rai)
- 2 dried red chillies ( for tadka)
- 1 tsp red chilli Powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- A pinch of hinge
- 1 tbsp oil or ghee
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Let's see how to make it step by step:
Step 1 : Cook the dal:
- First wash the toor dal thoroughly until the water looks clear.Then add toor dal and 3 cups of water in a cooker. Then add turmeric powder and salt in it.
- Then let the cooker cook on the gas for 2-3 whistles. Until it becomes soft and mashed. Once the lentils become soft, mash them and keep them aside.
Step 2: prepration for spinach:
- Wash a spinch leaves thoroughly to remove dirt.
- Cut spinach finaly and keep a side.
Step 3: make the tadka:
- Heat a oil or ghee in deep pan or Kadai in medium flame.
- Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add red dried chillies and a pinch of hing and cook the a second for aroma.
- Add greated garlic, ginger or green chillies and saute until garlic turn golden brown.
- Add chopped onions saute until become golden brown and add tomato cook until tomato become mashed and soft.
Step 4: Combine spinach and dal:
- Add the chopped spinach in the pan and sauté for 2-3 minute until spinach become wilted.
- Then add the red chilli Powder and coriander powder in it.
- Then add our mashed dal in it and stir until everything combain together.
Step 5 : simmer the dal:
- Add 2 -3 cup of water to adjust consistency for dal as per your perferance.
- Let the dal simmer 5-10 minutes on low flame. To add flovers to meld together.
- An last to add lemon juice and fresh coriander leaves to garnish.

Adjust spices level:
you can adjust spices level according to you if you want more spices add more green chillies or red chilli powder.
Add smokey flover:
For smoke flavor, add a piece of charcol in between the dal and darzzil some ghee over it. Cover the pan and keep over 2-3 minute, remove the charcoal.
